Phonics and Reading Schemes
Approach to Phonics & Reading Schemes
Here at Lansbury Bridge we teach phonics through a systematic approach that introduces information slowly, allowing the child time to learn, practice and master newly acquired skills before additional complexities are added. We follow the DfE publication 'Letters and Sounds' which consists of 6 phases. Due to the wide rage of needs and abilities, we continue to progress through these phases up until Key Stage 2. Activities are creatively differentiated to meet individual needs and are taught through a total communication approach.
All children in school are given suitable reading materials which works alongside the progression of their phonic knowledge. Some children access tactile sensory books and complete activities that work on the pre-requisite skills to reading.
